Herbert Cheeseman died from wounds on 23rd October, 1914 after having been sent back to a base hospital on the coast but as yet there is no information as to when and where he was wounded. The 1st East Surrey battalion was part of 14 Brigade, 5th Division, that had landed in France at the beginning of the war in August, 1914 and had been invoved in much of the fightiing since then |
